Yesterday I felt really frustrated that I was having a hard time getting another freelance job and I was antsy about the fact that I am still waiting for some responses from a few queries that I sent out, so I decided to go do some gardening. Now I know what you are thinking, "Oh this cow is lazy, because she does not want to do a little bit of gardening". But, I should mention that we are terrible gardeners in my family and our entire garden is overgrown with weeds. It looks like jungle here.
Anyway, I was rather enthusiastically pulling the weeds until my dog decided to take a dump right in front of me. Never the less, I cleaned the mess and went on. While I was pulling the weeds enthusiastically, a few ideas for a story popped into my head and then I had a few new ideas, which are always fantastic. This morning when I got up however, there were parts of my body aching that I did not even knew possessed muscles. To make matters worse, I didn't finish cleaning up that one section of the yard yesterday, which meant that I had to do more gardening today.
I am happy for the fact that keeping my hands occupied supplies me with great ideas, but getting rid of weeds are tough. I take my hat off to all you gardeners out there. You have a fantastic talent.

I am a gardener, but I use a water-permeable cloth under the soil that blocks weeds. We still get some weeds, but not much and never deep ones. I've battled the weeds in my lawn for years and accept defeat.
ReplyDeleteI find gardening to be very meditative. It's great to do when I'm stuck on a piece. Sometimes you have to keep your hands busy with something else to get your mind going in the right direction.
No one who looked at my sorry excuse for a garden would think you're a terrible gardener.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I don't think I've pulled weeds for about five years now.
I'm not much of a gardener either. I'm not sure you could tempt me into gardening with the possibility of a flow of new ideas! Glad to hear it's working for you though.
ReplyDeleteTonja - I have to look into this water-permeable cloth. It sounds like a dream come true. Thank you for the tip.
ReplyDeleteM.J. - I completely understand. Where is the time, not that it is always a plausible excuse in my case.
Rebecca - Thank you and I now completely understand why you feel the way you feel.
I try to garden, but the things I want to grow die and then things I want dead keep coming back to life. Zombie weeds? That might be interesting! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't particularly like gardening either. (Please don't tell my mom. She LOVES it.) However, it is one of those jobs that gets the creativity moving. Must be something about digging in the dirt.
ReplyDeleteDavid - Definitely! I can relate to what you are saying. The things we want to grow, like the roses just keep on dying. I am just terrible at gardening. The zombie weeds could definitely work.
ReplyDeleteMary - Digging in the dirt is rather therapeutic, but then I creep out when I have to go and eat with those hands later, washed or not. My mother also likes gardening, but she rather gives instructions, instead of actually gardening.
I am N-O-T green-fingered... AT ALL!
ReplyDeleteI killed a cactus once - how difficult is that? Answer: Very difficult!
But I did it! Need I say more? No.
So I stay far away from anything that has to do with gardening.
Michelle - I understand. I do't have green thumbs either, but I am trying to at least kill the weeds. Unfortunately, they seem to be the only things that grow.
