B = BEST
It is so easy for us to be really hard on ourselves and
believe everything everyone else has to say. I don’t know why it is easier to
believe what everyone else has to say, but we do tend to listen to other
people. I know when we give our best and we have done all that we could, we
still allow ourselves to think that our best was not good enough and that by
some miracle or something similar we could have done even more. But what we
need to tell ourselves and remind ourselves of constantly, is that our best is
enough. We do not have to please others, just ourselves, so remember, your best
is good enough.

Moody Writing
There is a huge need for people to seek approval. I'm on a writer message board, and every day, someone comes on and asks for permission to do something.
ReplyDeleteIf you honestly give of your very best, then I think you are always the best you can be at a specific moment in time, in a given situation... and we are human, after all...
ReplyDeleteI tell that to people (like my co-workers a lot) but I very seldom hold myself to that standard. I'm usually in the "my best isn't good enough" camp.
ReplyDeleteI think one of the hardest things to do is let go of the perfectionisms that holds us back instead of freeing us to be more creative. Good post.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great attitude to have. I never ever feel like what I do is good enough. Thanks for your encouragement.
ReplyDeleteAnnalisa - I agree. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteMooderino - I am glad that you agree.
Linda - It is true, I am guilty of it myself.
Michelle - Your words are so true.
M.J - I know what you mean! I think that way too and sometimes I think, why Isn't my best good enough?
Begojohnson.com - Thank you. I guess some of us can be perfectionists. Thank you for stopping by.
Kassiah - You are so welcome. I know that many of us feel that way, which is why I wanted to write an encouraging post and just remind us that we are doing a great job, even though we don't always think so. Thank you so much for stopping by.
Words of wisdom. Great to meet you at LD Masterson's today.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if artists and musicians do this as well, but it seems to me that writers are very good at beating themselves up about what they haven't done and are reluctant to take heart from what they have done...I know that inner dissatisfaction is part of the creative process but if work is ever going to be shared with the wider world the writer has to believe in its worth, that they are not wasting their time or anyone else's...
ReplyDeleteI think sometimes the problem is deciding if you've indeed done your best or not. A difficult decision to make for people with serious problems of self-doubt. But I believe everyone should strive to do their best. I really enjoyed your post. (:
ReplyDeleteA-Z participant blogging from Elise Fallson
These are good words for any aspiring writer! I know of some very famous authors who still suffer from not feeling good enough... Maybe that just goes hand in hand with all creative careers.
ReplyDeleteSelf doubt is a biggie for me. Some times I'm my own worst enemy and some times I'm my greatest cheer leader.
ReplyDeleteI believe it's easier to believe what others have to say because it's easier to take in outside data than to extrapolate data from your own heart.

Carol - It was just great meeting you and hearing about your book. It sounds like a really great read. I need to buy it. Thank you for stopping by and following my blog.
ReplyDeleteBridgetwhelan.com - I think you are right, writers just like torturing themselves. But I guess it just means we just got a lot of passion and a need to make things perfect. Thank you for stopping by.
Elise - Thank you. I just always try my best and hope it is good enough. It was very nice meeting you.
David - So true! Creative people are always so tortured and in my case, I tend to do my best writing when I am in that whole "doubting" myself stage. Or at least in my opinion I do my best writing. Thank you for coming over to visit.
Jai - It is so funny that you say that because I feel that way too. I just wish I could cheer myself on more. Thank you so much for stopping by.
M - Those words are very true. Thank you so much for visiting my blog.
