Asking for help may sound like a simple thing to do when you
find yourself in a tough situation, but it can also be one of the hardest
things to do. I know that I myself am a very proud person. I must probably have
failed at the same thing at least ten times before I would ask for help. But
that is just because I am a stubborn person who will always try and do
something myself first.
There is no shame in asking for help. If a situation becomes
too much to handle, it is okay to ask someone for help. It is okay to admit
that you need help and it does not mean that you are a failure or that you are
not a competent and capable person. Everyone needs help at one point or
another. So do not let anyone make you feel bad or unworthy just because you
are asking for help.
I'm bad at asking for help. I always feel I should be able to cope. I did once though - a biggie - and it was such a relief. You're completely right though, there is no shame,
ReplyDeleteI'm terrible at asking for help. Like Annalisa, I always feel like I should be able to cope and figure it out on my own.
ReplyDeleteBut I always tell others (and mean it) that it's okay to ask for help.
I can be a bit stubborn at times, wanting to manage on my own but sometimes it isn't possible. I'm just grateful there are people there to help me when I need it.
ReplyDeleteI was bad at asking for help from anyone other than my son. I turned to him for everything.
ReplyDeleteAir in the tires, covering/uncovering the swamp cooler. All the things that were difficult for me. One day I realized the undo burden I was putting on him and I have now spread the 'love'.
Annalisa - I feel like I should cope too. But there were and still are certain things I just need help with, so I have learned to ask for help, even if it pains me to do it.
ReplyDeleteM.J. - I know what you mean. I need to figure some things out on my own first and if I get stuck, I will ask for help.
Mama J - I think you are very lucky to have individuals to help you out. I know that having people close by who you can trust and who can help you out to be invaluable.
Jai - I understand why you always asked your son for help. It is easier in some way and hurts less of one's pride. I know this, because I still ask my brother and sisters and even my mom for help with things sometimes. Other people just make too much of a fuss.
I'm rubbish at asking for help, but like helping others. Someone told me once that letting people help you is actually doing them a favour - I think there's some truth in that. :-)
ReplyDeleteErmie - I find that there are some people that don't mind helping you out and if I really needed it, then i would ask them. But not just anyone. I guess i am too proud for that.
