The music really helps

When it comes to editing, I usually find the creativity leaving me. Mostly because I'm supposed to think with my logical mind to see things clearly. So, I tried to listen to a different type of music than when I write. I tried classical music and it really works for me. Something about the clarity and beautifully harmonious sound of the instruments really sooth me and it helps the editing a lot. Even opera music helps and I have come to really love it, along with classical music. In general I have a very diverse taste in music and books, so this is right up my alley.

  1. I'm glad that music helps you write, Murees. I love music, especially since I'm a former voice student. Classical music is beautiful. Best wishes, as always.

  2. Classical music is the best. It's far more complex than today's pop music. I still can't listen to music and write, though. It's too distracting.

  3. We tried playing music during accelerated learning courses and it largely received a hostile reception. I must admit I like quite when I'm writing - music, even classical, would be counter productive.

  4. Deanie - Music is so wonderful. Thank you for your kind words.

Sherry - Music helps the creativity for me. Though sometimes I do need quiet. Classical music is so beautiful.

Bob - Most writers I meet don't like listening to music when they write. I don't always listen to music when I write, but I do most of the time. Sometimes it helps a scene along, but not always.

  5. Hi Murees .. I'm definitely a quiet person ... but sometimes I'll put some music on .. usually fairly soft - but when I'm working around the flat - then I'll have some happy music to keep me going!

It's good that music spurs on you ... happy writing ..cheers Hilary

  6. Hilary - Thank you. Music is very inspiring sometimes and I agree with you, when I clean the house I have to have music to help me along.

  7. Interesting. I've tried listening to music when I write/edit but I end up just listening to the music instead of working. Maybe I should try classical.

  8. I also like listening to music as I edit. I use the same music I use when drafting, but sometimes I do enjoy opera or classical music while working.

  9. LD - Sometimes I prefer the quiet. But mostly I find that the music works as the score for the movie playing out in my head.

Misha - It is nice that you are a like-minded individual. Music is just such and inspiration.

  10. Sometimes I need music, sometimes I need the mild distraction of the TV on, and sometimes I need complete silence.

  12. Since I made my living as a singer for awhile, I can't listen to music - it makes me concentrate on entirely different, non-writing stuff. It's awesome that you've found what works for you. Creativity is sometimes hard to grab ahold of. :)

  13. I think it is so cool that you used to sing. Thank you, creativity is such a bugger, but I like it at the moment.

What is the point?

Today I was plagued with the idea, why? And why?  Everywhere these days there's a silent rule imposed by some invisible person or person...
