Good start to the week

I've been having a great couple of days. My rewriting is going along nicely. I'm not feeling stressed at this point, which is great. Yay!

My brother asked me to limit my refined sugar intake, as it may relieve my depression symptoms and it really is helping. It's just so hard to stop drinking soda and sugary drinks when you're addicted to it. Yes, I'm guilty. And I really have a sweet tooth. The torture! I've even started half-hour walks to help my mood. I hate the exercise when I'm doing it, but when I feel better the next morning I'm grateful. Plus, I really need to lose weight anyway, so...yeah.

Hope your week started off great. Let me know.

  1. The best thing about going cold turkey with sugar is that your taste buds change, and soon - although it's hard to imagine now - you'll find those sodas too sweet. I promise!! :-)

  2. Hi Murees ... yes that's good - too much of anything definitely doesn't help .. our ancestors knew best ... lots of water and fresh of everything ... unless they salted it and made biltong!!!!

Walking and generally reducing the sugars, and perhaps even the wheat .. I know I definitely feel better when I don't eat bread, pasta, cakes etc ... I still have them occasionally ...

Good luck - and you're lucky to have your brother around supporting you ... cheers Hilary

    1. Thank you so much for the kind words, Hilary. My brother is very good to me. Biltong is great, especially as a snack. I am working on the refined carbohydrates too, but it is really tough. I know my body will thank me for it. Thank you for the encouragement.

  3. Yup. With this pregnancy I've been on a very strict diet. I have to consume a certain amount of water every day, eat a specific # of vegetables, and avoid refined sugars. That's not typically a problem since I don't do soda, but my goodness, my body went into overdrive, demanding baked goods. Very unkind of it.

My husband has noticed the same thing. When he limits his sugar intake (not including natural sugars) he's more positive and happy. Have you tried replacing soda with natural fruit juices? Or snacking on a piece of fruit to satisfy your sweet tooth? Best of luck to you in your efforts! You can do it.

    1. Thank you! Poor you. I'm sure the baby wants something sweet, I mean she is a girl after all. Baked goods are my favorite... at least it used to be. :-(

I'm drinking water and 100% pure juice at the moment. I'm yet to try the fresh fruit. But so far the juice does help. Thank you so much for your encouragement. It helps.

  4. I quit drinking those sugary drinks a few years ago and haven't looked back since. This is not to say it was easy, though. My thoughts and best wishes go to you while you make these positive changes to your life.

  5. Good for you on limiting the sugar. They call it the new "smoking" for a reason. So bad for us. And, yeah, I'm a total sugar addict too. Not the drinks so much, but yes to the chocolate. :)

    1. Thank you. It is so addictive, but I agree on the chocolate. Desserts are my weakness.

  6. I am addicted to chocolate. Every now and then I think I should limit my intake of the stuff, but I never seem to last long.

It is very hard to stop drinking soda. I've done it, and the "detox" period was no fun. I've recently "fallen off the wagon" though, so I'll be going through the whole experience all over again. Good luck to you with that and your rewrites!

    1. Thank you! Soda tastes so good, but yeah, its bad. I guess if we eat those high cocoa content chocolate it would still be good for us, right? Have a great Thanksgiving.

  7. Hi Murees,
Your brother gave you great advice. So proud of you for exercising more and limiting refined sugar. You might like honey as a natural sweetener. My dad was way ahead of his time when he limited our refined sugars. We're healthier because of it. You'll be glad you put the effort into improving your diet. It's worth the effort.

    1. Thank you Deanie! Your dad was very smart. Honey is my new best friend and strangely enough, I find it very sweet, almost too sweet. Happy Thanksgiving.

  8. I found when I cut out desserts, my sweet tooth diminished. And when I had something sweet, it didn't taste very good to me. You'll feel a lot better cutting out the extra sugar.

    Have a happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Thank you! I really hope so. I'm still at the withdrawal stage, but if it can help my depression, I'll ditch the sugar. Happy Thanksgiving.
