I'm a bad reader

We have all seen adverts for free downloadable e-books on amazon. Well, I am the kind of person that just can't pass up a free e-book, because I can't always afford to buy new books constantly. When you download a free e-book, the best way to thank the author is to leave a review. So here is why I'm bad. I never read those free books. I tell myself I will get to them and then I end up writing, watching TV or working.

I have promised to leave a review for quite a few books, once I have read them of course. But to be honest? That reading list is quite long and not all the books are to my taste, but I can't say that in my review. Oh, did I ever mention that I don't like writing reviews out of fear that I might not like your book? I can be a very picky reader. But mostly what I read depends on my mood. When I have a depression episode, the last thing I want to do is read.

But having said all of the above, to those that I still ow reviews, I will get to your book as soon as I can. I apologize for my slow progress. I can be a slow reader.

How about you? Do you like downloading free e-books from amazon too? Do you have tons of free books you've never read? Do you always leave reviews? Do you think I'm going to consumer hell?

  1. I've eased back on the free books as I have so many already. I don't always review but I at least leave a starred rating on Goodreads.

    1. I haven't thought about that. Thank you for sharing your Goodreads solutions with me. If you don't mind, I think I will use it too. You just saved me! Thank you! Yeah, I should stop downloading free e-books. It just makes things worse.

  2. Yeah, that's not my forte either. I do not like writing book reviews. I will usually give a rating, though. Time, there isn't enough of it!

    1. So true. I'm going to follow your example and do the rating thing too. Thank you for sharing it with me.

  3. I'm guilty of hoarding books (free and purchased) I haven't and probably won't read. I still owe people reviews from three or four (or more!) years ago too. I do review everything I finish reading, but there're so many books out there. I'll never get to them all.

    1. I know what you mean. I don't think I will ever get to it all either. Thank you for letting me know I'm not the only one struggling with this.

  4. I won a paperback recently, so I really must get on and read it, and review/star it. I too always try to review what I read, but there's so much I haven't read yet. It's waiting for me.

    1. It is nice to know I'm not the only one struggling with this. But I think you'll make better progress than me. Good-luck with your 'to be read' books.

  5. You're definitely not going to consumer hell! I used to try and write reviews on my blog but tbh, it was so time consuming that I found I was losing interest in the story, because I had to keep stopping to write down notes! So I gave up. I think most authors appreciate that not everyone has time to sit down and review their book immediately - I wouldn't worry about it :).

  6. I don't read ebooks. It's okay if you don't get around to them. You will not go to any kind of hell. I shall grab your hand and pull you into Heaven.

    Love,
    Janie

  7. I know! It would be so mean to say 'I didn't like the book'. And I might even lose a friend. Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone on this issue.

  8. Don't worry, Murees. Nobody has time for everything, I only review children's books, and whenever I have time for them. Have a great weekend.

  9. I'm actually quite picky about what I actually download, even. And when I read, I'm figuring I'm giving that author a shot and that I'll buy the next books if I like this one. (Don't really do reviews.)

    1. Very true. I definitely learnt my lesson when it comes to reviews.

  10. I agree with Alex - I leave my starred rating on Goodreads and hope that's enough.

    1. Thank you for visiting. I'll definitely try the starred rating system from now on.

What is the point?

Today I was plagued with the idea, why? And why?  Everywhere these days there's a silent rule imposed by some invisible person or person...
